NYC FINANCE BOARD: FRONT RUNNER ALBERT BALDEO OVERWHELMS OTHER CANDIDATES IN FUNDRAISING
Recently, all City Council candidates in accordance with the Campaign Finance Act, filed Statements of receipts and expenditures with the NYC Campaign Finance Board. According to the filed statements, Attorney at Law Albert Baldeo received $20,776 in contributions while his nearest opponent Dhanpaul Narine received only $5,562 in contributions. Imam Bilal has received $505 in contributions. Albert Baldeo's near 400% fundraising lead at this rate may become insurmountable for the other candidates remaining in the field.
The current Councilman Allan Jennings has raised no money thus far. On the contrary, Councilman Jennings actually owes the NYC Campaign Finance Board $5,040 in outstanding penalties. Ex-Councilman Thomas White Jr. has also raised no money for the race. Source:
Accordingly, Albert Baldeo is calling upon Dr. Dhanpaul Narine, Imam Bilal and Dr. Robby Mahadeo to join his movement so that a formidable challenge can be made on behalf of our community to the incumbent Jennings.
"United we stand, divided we fall! I am overwhelmed with the contributions and support I have gotten, which is 5 times the amount received by my closest rival Dr. Dhanpaul Narine, as per the Campaign Finance records," an enthusiastic Baldeo said, "I will bring resources, jobs, living wages and overall betterment to District 28. We should join together for our common cause. This race is not about us-It is about our community," Baldeo reminded.

CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE ALBERT BALDEO'S CONDEMNATION OF PROPOSAL TO NARROW 111 STREET UPHELD BY COMMUNITY BOARD
City Council candidate, Attorney at Law Albert Baldeo, whose law practice is located 5 blocks from 111 Street in Richmond Hill, has condemned the DOT's proposal to narrow the street. "I think that the DOT should focus on installing more stop signs, traffic lights, speed bumps and such other amenities in this community. Why do taxpayers have to keep on dying before the DOT takes notice of these essential services? What value does the DOT place on human lives? Moreover, 111 Street, as presently constituted, serves as a very helpful route to facilitate egress and ingress for businessmen, professionals, residents and service providers alike in this area. Our firefighters will face more danger from the decreased space in the event of a fire, and the churches and schools there will also suffer as a result of less parking space. Many of my clients and neighbors have complained to me that the proposed narrowing will create congestion, confusion, and will result in the unfair depreciation of their properties' values. Some want to institute a class action lawsuit against the DOT," Baldeo said.
The City Council hopeful also stated that the DOT's action leaves much to be desired. "The fact is that they did not consult with the residents and area associations, such as the Richmond Hill Block Association. Further, when this "secret" was eventually divulged at Community Board 9's meeting, DOT's officials were woefully short on the statistics which must be considered before such a decision is made, because it impacts on quality of life issues in our community, which I am fighting to protect," Baldeo reiterated.
Baldeo's recommendations, twice presentd before the Board, were well supported by other constituents and residents, and led to Community Board 9 voting against the proposal last Tuesday 8th. This should curtail the DOT's proposal. "We have to be vigilant against the erosion of our rights in our community. Democracy is a participatory process, " Baldeo warned.

CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE ALBERT BALDEO PROPOSES ESTABLISHMENT OF GREATER RICHMOND HILL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
Citing economic development as a major issue which his candidacy seeks to address, City Council Candidate Albert Baldeo has outlined a detailed plan to establish an economic development corporation that will serve the greater Richmond Hill area.
Noting that one of the major concerns of all area residents is growth and how best to manage it, Baldeo said that “Richmond Hill has experienced an upsurge in terms of population and economic activity which the current infrastructure can no longer support. Instead of approaching development in a hodgepodge manner, we should be looking at approaches which would take into consideration all of the factors such as transportation, sanitation, parking, business activities, and population growth especially the need for safe, affordable, legal housing.
Such an approach seeks to address everyone’s concerns since none of these issues exist independent of each other. Local development corporations already exists for neighboring areas such as Jamaica and Woodhaven. These communities have benefited greatly from this kind of public/private partnership. We can emulate and should seek to duplicate their success," Baldeo urged.
In order for this vision to be realized, Baldeo plans to work with local business, civic, and community leaders. In fact, he plans to include everyone in the decision making process, stating that, "everyone who lives here has a right to be represented or to present his/her idea."
Baldeo continued, "Richmond Hill and the surrounding areas are grossly underserved by taxpayer-funded government services. The presence of a grand alliance such as one afforded under the aegis of a local development corporation will afford a great degree of cohesiveness and coordination for the betterment of the quality of life for the residential and commercial citizens of the area.
A Greater Richmond Hill Development Corporation is long overdue. We need to partner with established institutions such as the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation and the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation to make this a reality."

City Council candidate Albert Baldeo was chosen to be "Principal for A Day"
City Council candidate Albert Baldeo was chosen to be "Principal for A Day" on 4/6/05 at the August Martin High School located on Baisley Boulevard in Jamaica, New York. In pictures above, he discusses education issues affecting his district with Chancellor Joel Klein, and fraternizes with staff and students at the August Martin High School. Baldeo said, "In this time when it’s popular to simply beat up on the public education system and for those who can afford it to desert it completely, I believe we must do what we can to fix the problems in the system and to work to strengthen the system as opposed to writing it off.
I am a strong believer in a supportive relationship between the local business community and the local public schools as there is a definite need at this point particularly in underserved and underprivileged areas.
This experience gave me first hand knowledge of the local schools in our community. I can assist better in building a long term bridge between the local schools and the local business community. I know there are needs within our local schools and the business and professional community while not able to meet all of those needs, we can play a constructive and positive role in the process. My brother, Dr. Philip Baldeo, a medical doctor and myself, an attorney, are working out programs, not only to give scholarships to students, but also to offer them internships and other assistance in our professional practices."
If he is elected to the City Council, Baldeo promises to focus on the following ON EDUCATION:
-Pass a local law making the City of NY a Plaintiff in the Campaign for Fiscal Equity Against the State of NY in Court
-Reduce Class Sizes & percentage of certified teachers
-Give NYC public school teachers a fair and comprehensive Contract
-Increase Parental Involvement & funding
-Properly Equip Science & Computer Labs
-Provide job training with actual jobs for District 28 residents.

ALBERT BALDEO CELEBRATES PHAGWAH
City Council candidate Attorney at Law Albert Baldeo braved the weather and celebrated Phagwah in grand style with other revelers on Liberty Avenue Phagwah parade and in Smokey Park. "This occasion marks the triumph of good over evil, and the beginning of the new year. If I am elected to the City Council, I will ensure that Phagwah is given equal recognition with other religious holidays and that preference is not given to any other religion, in accordance with the constitutional rights of Hindus. Moreover, I will eradicate the unconscionable new fees which are now being levied on us for the parade. If we can't have a parade where we live and pay taxes, then where will we have it? Each community must have equal rights!" Baldeo said.

ALBERT BALDEO ASSISTS JAGAT RAM BALRAM FAMILY
City Council candidate Albert Baldeo has volunteered his legal services to assist the Balram family, whose father and husband was brutally killed a few weeks ago in Richmond Hill. After the burial in Guyana, Baldeo is in the process of obtaining compensation from the Crime Victims Compensation Board, and is contemplating suing the city for its failure to implement measures which could have prevented the horrible pain of the Balram family. An immmigration expert, he has also initiated procedures to have the remaining relatives in Guyana join those in the USA, so that the family unit can be held together. "I am stepping up to the plate to render pro bono legal services to this family, so I can alleviate their pain and suffering. I will give freely of my 23 years of legal experience for any other family which requires my help."

ALBERT BALDEO'S STATEMENT ON CHALLENGER TOM WHITE
"I don't believe that the residents of District 28 are ready to turn the clock back particularly considering that it was the will of the voters of the entire City that Council Members serve no more than 2 consecutive terms. Tom White has had his 2 chances. Whereas we acknowledge his contribution in the past, old wine should not be poured into new wine skins. I will bring fresh ideas, invigorating business and professional leadership, and family values to this entire district, which gives us a greater, united voice in our affairs. Previous council members have not served the entire district and environs of Ozone Park, Rochdale, Jamaica and Richmond Hill, nor form alliances with other districts for the universal betterment of our community. Mr. White's absentee record (60%), is a big factor the voters should consider against reelecting him."
