CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE ALBERT BALDEO RECEIVES
APPRECIATION AWARD FROM COMMUNITY
A very large audience presented City Council candidate Attorney
at Law Albert Baldeo with an award recognizing his "invaluable
services and contributions to the community" in New York at
Club Tobago last Sunday. Mr. Baldeo gave free legal consultations,
did voter registration and citizenship applications for his fellow
residents. Baldeo advised residents to "take an active part
in Parent Teachers Associations, Civic Organizations, Community
Boards, School Boards, Block Associations and so forth. Voting is
a sacred duty. You pay taxes just like everyone else, and unless
and until we empower ourselves, we will be treated like step children
in this community. The system in America is a participatory democracy.
If you do not raise your voices, no one will do so for you. Remember,
American is a nation of immigrants."

Mr. Doolam Singh presents the award on behalf of the many constituents
who attended the cultural presentation. Baldeo's stated aim is to
empower his community so that we all have a voice in how our tax
dollars are spent.
