MALCOLM SMITH, ALBERT BALDEO HONORED AT QUEENS COUNTY PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRATIC CLUB AWARDS DINNER

The Queens County Progressive Democratic Club, (QCPDC) held its annual awards dinner at the Douglaston Manor on June 21 last. The club is a merger of two highly visible democratic organizations-the Eastern Queens Democratic Club and the New American Organization of New York. Its primary purpose is to establish a more powerful democratic base that will substantively represent all Democrats in Queens County, to bring justice, integrity and fairness to the political process and to give a dynamic, vital, energetic and much needed voice in the Democratic political arena of Queens County.

The honorees and their respective achievements are:

  • Democratic State Senate Leader Malcolm Smith: the Rising Star Award.

  • Executive Vice President of UFCW Local 1500 Anthony Speelman : Labor Leader of the Year Award. 

  • Jerry Iannece, Esq: Community Service Award. 

  • Albert Baldeo, Esq: Activist of the Year Award.       

  • Grace Meng, Esq:  Activist of the Year Award.

Congressmen Gregory Meeks, Anthony Weiner, Joe Crowley, who is also the Queens County Democratic Organization leader, also sent congratulatory congressional citations to the honorees, praising Albert Baldeo's "unselfish devotion of his time and talents to better the lives of his neighbors," and "outstanding service to his community." Councilman Hiram Monserrate also presented City Council appreciations, citing Albert Baldeo's "tireless devotion to community service."

Special Recognition Awards were also presented to Adam Bonet, Murray Roseman, Pinkas Schachter and Phil Wertman.
